Awana Games

On April 4th we had the Awana games, where we get together with other churches and play games against each other. We always have such a good time and this year was no exception. Awana stand for Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed which is an acronym for 2 Timothy 2:15 "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." We begin our Awana club with prayer and pledge to both the American and Awana flags. We then have a Bible lesson where the children are taught the truths of the gospel. Next comes our time where the children recite the verses that they have memorized. And last but not least comes our game time. During game time we play many relay races and it is these races that we come together to play against other churches at the Awana games.

Jayda is playing beanbag relay. They walk around the circle without dropping the beanbag off their heads. She did a great job. But her greatest accomplishment during the games was being a good sport and being happy for the other teams when they did well.
Joey is waiting patiently for the games to begin. He gave me his biggest smile because he was soooo excited to be with his friends. His greatest accomplishment was learning to apologize after he hurt his friend and then to forgive.

In this picture Aubrey is giving our Associate Pastor Tommy bunny ears. Joey was hugging him but slipped behind during the picture. Pastor Tommy and his wife Angela have been so wonderful for our children. As you can see they really like him.
Aubrey and Laura are preparing to run the 3-legged race. And I say run because if you try to walk you will lose very quickly. They had to run around the circle two times and then run into the center and pick up their colored pin. These girls are best friends and did wonderful together. Aubrey was able to put others first today.

When we left the games we went to my friends funeral. The church was full of those whom she had touched. We had to put up folding chairs to be able to accomodate them. She was our Awana director and she touched so many lives. I wish you could all have heard the amazing stories her friends and family shared with us. We will miss Carolyn deeply, but look forward to the day when we meet again at the feet of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
