Field trip at Hogle Zoo

WERE GOING TO THE ZOO, ZOO, ZOO. YOU CAN COME TOO, TOO, TOO.

We had so much fun at the zoo last Feb. For the first time Utahs Hogle Zoo had a free day for homeschoolers. They had set out some papers with questions you could ask to start a discussion of the different animals. I was amazed to see so many homeschooling families there. We really enjoyed seeing the animals and riding on the new Merry go round. In the pictures below are all the kids (who wanted too) standing with a great horned owl.

Autumn really wanted to stand with the owl, but the funny thing is that we had to persuade her that it was going to be ok. She was all smiles as you can see....

Alarica needed some persuasion also, but as you can see she had a wonderful time at the zoo.

Jayda was hillarious... Her question to the keeper was "where do horned owls live?" The keepers reply "These owls live in Utah." Jayda's very matter of fact response was "Well, I live in Utah and I've never seen one of those in my Utah!" But none the less, she was happy to stand as close as she was allowed too.

Joey, always full of questions about everything, was not a dissapointment. What do they feel like? How far can he turn his head? Can he see at night? What does he eat? Why is he called a horned owl? Does he really have horns? hmmmm...... and the list goes on and on. The keeper really had her work out for her with him, and he left with a greater appreciation for the bird.

Aubrey was feeling shy. She knew that they were very quiet while flying. The keeper turned her wrist to make the owl flap it's wings. WOW!!! they are very very quiet. Isn't God amazing in his creation. He knew that the owl would need to be silent while in flight, or it would never be able to catch the very quick mice. Creation is so beautiful..... The girls and I are so excited to go to California and spend a few days in Gods creation.

Oh, and for those of you who are wondering where Alicia and Ashton are.... Well, they are hiding from the camera and refusing to pose with an owl. Teen agers, what are you gonna do. Just enjoy them!
