Chickens, Skunks and Dogs

Our chickens were supposed to start laying eggs in August so we were feeling the pinch to make some nesting boxes. With Joe's work schedule it is hard to fit these kind of projects in so you can imagine that Joey was so excited to be working along side his dad. They gathered all the loose pieces of wood we had lying around and got to work. Here they are deciding how they were going to put them together.

It took them a couple hours to complete their project but it was the best couple hours Joey has had in the past few months. It was wonderful watching them work and listening to the talk with eachother. Below is a picture of the finished project.
And now the grand finale. The very next day Jayda's chickens laid an egg. We were all so excited to get our first egg and had a good laugh at the timing. During that same week, God displayed his majesty with one of the most beautiful thunder storms I've seen in awhile. Joe and I love to sit on the porch and watch the storms roll on by, however, this night was interrupted by the very strong stench of a skunk all over our dog. It was late so he had to sleep in the garage. In the morning it was time for washing. We started with tomato juice.
Followed by baking soda and then shampoo. He was a good sport and was very patient with Joe during this whole process but as you can see, he was not happy about it.
Here he is all cleaned up. The smell is not completely gone but it is faint enough that we can pet him and not cringe.
